Weather station
My weather station providing the data to my website is a Davis Instruments 6163 Wireless Vantage Pro 2 Plus Weather Station with a fan-aspirated radiation shield. It is solar powered with a battery backup. The Integrated Sensor Suite (ISS) (see picture below) communicates via wireless RF with the console inside (see picture below). Indoor data is measured at the console. This station has the following sensors:
Outdoor Temperature
Outdoor Humidity
Wind Speed
Wind Direction
Rainfall (Precipitation)
Barometric Pressure
Indoor Temperature (console)
Indoor Humidity (console)
Solar Radiation
UV Radiation
The data is received wirelessly by my Meteobridge Pro (also sold as a WeatherBridge Pro - see photo below). The Meteobridge can also be cabled to the console to receive the data via USB. I have the Meteobridge hooked to my router wirelessly, or it can connect via ethernet if necessary. The Meteobridge compiles and sends the data to a number of weather servers I have selected. It also updates my own database on my schedule. That database is located on my host server, as is the Meteotemplate website template.
This whole system allows me to generate these web pages with up to date data without the need to keep a computer running 24/7. Generally the data you see will be just seconds old, and the "Current Conditions" and "Gauges" blocks will refresh with new data about every 10 seconds. A computer is still needed to manually ftp any new code or file updates to my website.
